Hey, everybody happy Monday and welcome to another episode of solving your stress mini series. I am your host Sam, and every Monday we get together and discuss what is going on in terms of stress in your life. We talked about awareness because when it comes to stress, the big question is, are you even aware that you're stressed out? That means paying attention to things like your breathing, how your body feels, stuff like that. Because most of us just go day to day, hour by hour, minute to minute being yanked around by the next thing that's presented to us or put on our plate without really taking a tactical approach to our day and being really strategic. Now for first responders or people that are in high stress environments, like, you know, businesses that are constantly on the move, whether it be technology or manufacturing, you've got to stay ahead of the game.
And so I want you to think of it as if you were building something, okay, say a house. If you build on a really flimsy foundation and you just keep going, what's going to happen to the house? It's probably not going to do very well in the long run. Things are going to fall apart really quickly, or God forbid there's a tornado or some other kind of event. The whole thing might just come crashing down. Well, what if you approached solving your stress and being aware of what's going on the same way, would that be an easier way for you to look at things or would it kind of throw a wrench in things because hey, that's new? I've never thought about it. Well, that's the problem. We've never think about it. And I'm here to tell you that it's super easy. One of the easiest solutions to getting a foundation of awareness is taking the time, five minutes, 10 minutes, even 15 minutes in the morning, and just sitting. Sitting and getting quiet.
Are you breathing through your nose or through your mouth? Do you feel like you can't sit still? Do you feel like you are calm or nervous? I could go on and on with a list, but the whole point is taking time to be still in order to be aware. And that's really something that most of us don't even do. Hey, I had to be shown. It became a must for me because after 9/11, after receiving a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress, my life was turned upside down. And in order for me to right my ship, the awareness piece was key. If you will take the five minutes in the morning, or 10 minutes. Five minutes, morning, and evening, and get aware of where you are because it all starts with awareness.
